Schools play a critical role in the health of our children. “Health” includes diet and nutrition, obesity prevention and reduction, exercise, violence prevention, relationships, drug-use prevention, smoking prevention and decision making.
It is critical that we at the West School prevent our students from becoming a health risk. There is a large population of children and adolescent’s across the country that do not meet the desirable levels of “health” in one or more of the above stated areas.
It is our responsibility as teachers, counselors, nurses, artists, chefs, physical education instructors, and administrators to address these critical health issues at every opportunity. They are an important component to successful learning as well as successful living, both in the near and long term.
